18,000 euros in state funding for the Lützeroda Fire Brigade Association

31.10.2026

There was great joy at the Lützeroda Fire Brigade Association: Guntram Wothly, the Volunteer Coordinator at the Thuringian State Chancellery, presented a grant cheque for 18,000 euros on Saturday. The funds from the Free State of Thuringia will be used to renovate and expand the festival grounds at the fire brigade association’s clubhouse in Lützeroda.

Jena’s mayor, Benjamin Koppe, also attended the ceremonial handover. Together with the association’s members, Wothly and Koppe recognised the importance of voluntary work for social cohesion and a vibrant sense of community in Jena’s neighbourhoods.

“Through the Free State of Thuringia’s funding for voluntary work, we aim to provide support precisely where people take on responsibility for their community with great personal commitment. The Lützeroda Fire Brigade Association impressively demonstrates how voluntary work enriches local life. This funding helps to permanently improve the conditions for such voluntary work and to maintain important community venues,” explained Guntram Wothly, Volunteer Coordinator at the Thuringian State Chancellery.

Founded in 1990, the Lützeroda Fire Brigade Association has been committed to the cultural and social life of the village for many years. As well as supporting the volunteer fire brigade, the association organises traditional festivals, events for children and the elderly, and joint community work projects. The fire brigade clubhouse and the adjacent festival grounds form an important hub of local community life.

Mayor Benjamin Koppe also highlighted the special role played by such associations for the city of Jena and its districts:

“Our districts thrive thanks to people who are passionately committed to their community. The Lützeroda Fire Brigade Association is an excellent example of this. Not only does it support the volunteer fire brigade, but it also keeps the sense of community alive through numerous events and joint activities. Such associations are indispensable, particularly in our districts. They foster connections, preserve traditions and strengthen cohesion across generations,” emphasised Mayor Benjamin Koppe.

With a grant of 18,000 euros, the Free State of Thuringia is supporting the renovation and expansion of the fairground, thereby contributing to the further development of a central meeting place in Lützeroda. The investment improves the conditions for club events, community activities and local voluntary work.

Mayor Koppe expressly welcomed the financial support from the Free State of Thuringia:

“Volunteering requires not only recognition but also reliable conditions. That is why it is important that the Free State of Thuringia, through its funding for volunteering, enables very specific local projects. The 18,000 euros represent a valuable investment in community life in Lützeroda and, at the same time, send an important signal to the many volunteers in our town. I would like to extend my special thanks to the club members whose personal commitment ensures that our neighbourhoods remain vibrant and liveable.”

This funding highlights just how important support for voluntary organisations is for social cohesion. In the local neighbourhoods in particular, voluntary organisations make an indispensable contribution to community life, the preservation of traditions and intergenerational interaction. Targeted funding from the Free State of Thuringia helps to secure and further develop this commitment in the long term.
