19,200 vaccinations at the municipal vaccination centers since December 1, 2021

14.03.2022

On Monday, the municipal vaccination center on the Ernst Abbe Campus opened its doors for the last time. Since December 1, 2021, a total of 19,200 people have been vaccinated at the two municipal vaccination centers without an appointment. In the first month in particular, many people from other federal states came to Jena to be vaccinated. This success was only possible thanks to the good cooperation of many different stakeholders.

Mayor Gerlitz commented: "We would like to thank Friedrich Schiller University Jena, the Workers' Samaritan Federation and, above all, the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Thuringia, who have given us massive support in creating our municipal vaccination program. At a time when people almost everywhere had to wait weeks for a vaccination appointment, we were able to create an offer in Jena that was low-threshold and available at short notice."

Around 30 doctors, more than 60 medical assistants and 20 ASB emergency services staff ensured that everything ran smoothly, even on Sundays and public holidays.

"I am sure that the great willingness to vaccinate in Jena, with over 19,000 vaccinations in our municipal vaccination centers alone, is a major reason why we are currently getting through the Omikron wave with few serious cases despite the high number of cases. I would therefore like to thank everyone who has contributed to the end of this pandemic with their vaccination," said Mayor Christian Gerlitz, who helped to organize this offer. In the last few days, many Ukrainian refugees have also been able to get their first vaccination.

The vaccination offer from the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians will also continue in Jena. Appointments for the Volksbad and Ziegesarstraße vaccination centers can still be booked at impfen-thueringen.de. All information can be found at jena.de/impfen.

"This offer can also be used for a second booster vaccination, which further increases protection and is possible for all adults in Thuringia just 3 months after the third vaccination," concludes Gerlitz.
