28th career information market on 11. 03.2023 in the Jena Volkshaus
After a good five years, Thomas Schütze (Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sparkasse Jena) has handed over the baton to his colleague Thomas Neupert (Member of the Board of Sparkasse Jena) following his successful work as Chairman of the Economy section of the SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT working group. The importance of a good education and what can be achieved is shown by the career of Thomas Neupert, who started as a trainee at Sparkasse Jena in 1995 and is now a member of the board of the local financial institution.
"I can't imagine a better successor for the working group and representative for this training exchange in Jena ," says Thomas Schütze, who will continue to support the recruitment and training of young talent in all areas of the economy.
For the school sector, Eberhard Hertzsch (Head of Department of the City of Jena) will also continue to act as Chairman of the SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT working group.
The date for the 28th careers information market in Jena has been set: The SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT Jena/Saale-Holzland district working group is inviting visitors to the Jena Volkshaus on 11.03.2023.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., around 90 companies and institutions will be presenting career opportunities in the economic regions of Jena and the Saale-Holzland district. They will provide information on more than 200 training occupations, school courses and study opportunities. Trainees from the companies themselves often present the professions, report on the training from their perspective and bring along illustrative material. This allows young visitors to find out first-hand not only about the job profiles, but also about the specific training conditions.
Careers information market remains a crowd puller
The fact that the careers information market has not lost any of its importance for young people and companies from Jena and the neighboring Saale-Holzland district, even after almost 30 years, is shown by the influx of interested visitors last year. At the time, the event was still dominated by the pandemic and no one was sure that the fair would actually be able to take place in Jena's Volkshaus again.
The conditions are now much more favorable for the trade fair planned for 11 March - there are no longer any restrictions. Despite all the crises, interest from companies remains unbroken. On the contrary - never before have so many exhibitors applied for a stand in the Volkshaus. Thanks to the use of additional rooms, around 90 companies can set up their stands and compete for the coveted young talent. A look at the situation on the training market shows that the situation has largely normalized after the years of the pandemic. The number of registered apprenticeships has risen compared to the previous year, but has not yet returned to the level seen before 2019 - 2020. In contrast, the number of registered applicants for apprenticeships has fallen. In Jena and the Saale-Holzland district, for example, there were 694 applicants for a training place and 1,094 registered training places last year. In other words, there were more than 1.5 training places for every young person registered. A situation that the creators and organizers of the careers information market could not have imagined at the beginning of the 1990s and well into the 2000s.
The market has developed into an applicant market. In order to remain attractive, companies have to offer good and very good conditions and subsequently career opportunities within the company. The careers information market offers a good opportunity to make contact with young people and parents, arrange internships and arouse curiosity. And ideally, this will result in a training or study place. This - and nothing less - is what the organizers of the 28th careers information market hope for exhibitors and visitors on 11 March 2023 in the Volkshaus in Jena.
