3,000th fire department vehicle with digital radio
On Monday, 10.05.2021, the 3,000th vehicle of the authorities and organizations with security tasks (BOS) in Thuringia was equipped with digital radio in the south station of the Jena professional fire department. In the city of Jena and the Saale-Holzland district alone, there are now around 340 fire department, rescue service and disaster control vehicles equipped with the new BOS digital radio. This means that the process, which began in 2019, is almost complete in both local authorities.
Universal voice and data radio system also helps with disaster operations
The main advantages of BOS digital radio are its high network stability, security against eavesdropping and excellent voice quality. The technology allows cross-organizational and nationwide communication and thus simplifies the implementation of complex deployment scenarios - especially in crisis and disaster situations.
Vehicle hall of the Jena professional fire department transformed into a radio workshop
The organization of the installation measures was a logistical challenge for those responsible. Each vehicle had to be taken out of operational readiness in stages in order to keep the installation times as short as possible. A separate installation concept was developed for each vehicle. Over a third of the vehicles from the city and district were equipped in the vehicle halls of the Jena professional fire department, which were transformed into radio workshops by the installation companies.
Digital radio upgrade thanks to close cooperation between Jena and the Saale-Holzland district
Benjamin Koppe, head of the finance and public order department of the city of Jena, and Johann Waschnewski, 1st deputy of the Saale-Holzland district, particularly praised the good and uncomplicated cooperation between the responsible parties of the two local authorities in the organization of the installation and the education and training of the comrades and helpers. Special thanks went to the Selectric company and the contractors who carried out the installation to an excellent standard.
Funding from the Free State of Bavaria
Due to a special funding guideline from the state of Thuringia, 70% of the costs for the equipment and installation are covered by the Free State. The remaining 30 % is financed via the municipal financial equalization scheme.
