334 new safety helmets for the volunteer fire departments in Jena

16.05.2024

The volunteer firefighters in the city of Jena have received 334 modern protective helmets, which were issued this week. On Wednesday evening, 20 members of the Zwätzen volunteer fire department were the first to receive their new helmets at the emergency response center. "In addition to purchasing new technology such as vehicles and equipment, it is necessary to equip not only the professional fire department, but also the volunteers. This includes modern personal protective equipment as a priority," said Safety Officer Benjamin Koppe during the handover.

The replacement of the protective helmets for all 14 volunteer fire departments will be organized by the specialist fire department and the respective brigade leaders over the next few days and weeks. The total cost of purchasing the ultra-modern and easy-to-wear helmets from Dräger is 107,000 euros, of which 100,000 euros can be covered by subsidies from the Free State of Thuringia. The helmets are specially designed for use in demanding environments and are particularly suitable for forest and wildland firefighting.
