35 years of peaceful revolution in Jena
This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution and the fall of the Berlin Wall. What does the caesura of 1989/90 have to do with our present day and what significance does it have for democratic society today? These questions will be discussed on Tuesday, December 3, starting at 6:30 pm in the Historic Town Hall in Jena. After a welcoming address by Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche, the Geschichtswerkstatt Jena will present a film documentary. In it, eight contemporary witnesses talk about their personal experiences and impressions. Among other things, they talk about the mood at the end of the 1980s, the emerging changes in the GDR and the peaceful protests and demonstrations in autumn 1989. The video portrait, enriched with numerous photos, sheds new light on the events of 35 years ago in Jena and at the same time draws a historical arc into the present.
The 30-minute presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with the audience. Five contemporary witnesses have announced their participation.
