40 new trainees start their professional future with the city of Jena

31.08.2021

The 40 new trainees are starting in 17 training programs at the City of Jena and its municipal enterprises. 27 trainees will start their careers in the core administration of the City of Jena. 13 trainees will be employed by the municipal enterprises (Kommunalservice Jena: five; Kommunale Immobilien Jena: six; JenaKultur: two).

The number of applicants was similar to previous years. This year, training and study places for the practice-integrated training program for educators and the dual study program in social work were particularly in demand.

Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche welcomed the young men and women at a welcome event in the Volkshaus: "We want to lead the administration into the future with you - with your different perspectives, ideas and commitment."

Covering a wide range of tasks with a broad spectrum of training professions

The tasks will be and remain very diverse: The city's major construction projects, the necessary steps towards digital administration, supporting the goal of climate neutrality by 2035 and continuing to deal with the corona pandemic and its effects.

In order to do justice to this diversity, the city of Jena offers over 20 professions and areas of work for trainees. The spectrum ranges, for example, from automotive mechatronics technician, office management clerk, real estate clerk, emergency paramedic, educator to event technology specialist and tourism and leisure clerk. In addition, dual study programs such as "Business Informatics" and "Public Management" are also offered. The latter was realigned to focus on "Digital Administration Management". In addition, after a long break, the dual study program "Social Work" was reinstated with two places.

The areas of work are numerous and offer a good opportunity to familiarize yourself with the variety of topics at the city. For example, they can help organize events, conferences and trade fairs, support projects in Central Project Management, advise customers in Citizen Services and Jena Tourist Information, help the Health Department in its work to contain the pandemic or gain an insight into election worker management. Trainees have also taken part in a climate protection project for local authorities and are working as "climate scouts" to embed the idea of climate protection in the long term.

Active promotion of young talent and excellent career opportunities due to approaching retirement age

The city's 20 or so training programs support the recruitment of young talent in-house.

Anja Andritzke, Head of Training at the City of Jena, says: "Not least due to the approaching retirement age in 2024/25, there are very good career opportunities and prospects for junior staff to be taken on."
This year, all eight apprenticeship graduates from the core administration and four apprenticeship graduates from JenaKultur were offered an employment contract.

Starting signal for 2022 application phase on 01.09.

The consistently high number of applications for apprenticeships and dual study courses this year shows that the city is perceived as an attractive employer.

We are pleased that we will also be offering the same number of apprenticeships and dual study courses in the new training year,

says Anja Andritzke, Head of Training at Jena City Council.

Here we go: From 01.09.2021, the first new advertisements for apprenticeships in 2022 can be found in the career portal. The closing date for applications for the coming 2022 training year is 30.11.2021.

Further apprenticeships offered by our own companies will follow at a later date with separate application deadlines.
