Agreement signed between the city of Jena and the allotment garden federation

22.03.2024

The agreement between thethe city of Jena and the Regionalverband Jena/Saale-Holzland-Kreis der Kleingärtner e.V. for the regulation of allotment garden matters has been concluded. This Friday, Lord Mayor Thomas Nitzsche and Mayor Christian Gerlitz signed the document on behalf of the city of Jena and on behalf of the regional association Holger Eismann as chairman and Tobias Zeilinger as treasurer. This marks an important milestone in the safeguarding and further development of the allotment garden movement .

The core of the agreement is to mutually regulate the framework conditions for the creation of replacement sites and the division of gardens. This creates clarity and agreement on the specific projects and their processes, financing and responsibilities. Both measures - subdivision and new allotments - serve to secure the allotment garden movement in Jena in the long term. The commune is assuming a significantly higher share of the costs than it would be legally obliged to. With the increased cost sharing, Jena is making a contribution to strengthening the allotment garden movement. At the same time, the trusting cooperation with the regional federation and the allotment garden associations is promoted.

In order to ensure theintegration of the gardens into the urban green/recreationsystem, the obligation for the allotment for the allotment gardeners was included, their gardensitessites between 01.04. and 31.10. so that the paths through the gardens are for the general public can be used by the general public. In doing so, the allotment gardeners are reaffirming the commitment they have already in their garden regulations and are thus making a contribution to strengthening publicly accessible urban green spaces.
