Allotment garden park Talstein planned
In the area of the allotment gardens north of the Talstein nursery, the city of Jena is planning to create an allotment garden park in the medium term.
The city wants to celebrate the fact that the trees have survived the critical first years and have grown well together with the neighboring gardeners on Wednesday, 27.10.2021, 16:00. Meeting point is at the large meadow.
Mr. Heindörfer from the gardening and landscaping company heindörfer & kliffe will demonstrate professional pruning of the fruit trees and answer questions. Coffee and pancakes will be served.
The location of the information event can be found on the map.
At the Talstein, various paths will offer walkers views of the magnificent blossoms in the gardens; benches, grassy areas for picnics and sunbathing and play areas will invite people to linger once the park has been completed. In the long term, the aim is to create a path linking the gardens to the Talstein road, thus creating a circular path. A key element of the park will be publicly accessible fruit trees and wild fruit trees. As a first step, apple trees, pear trees, rowan trees, mulberries, hazelnuts and various berry bushes were therefore planted in public areas in 2019: buckthorn, aronia, sloes, rock pears, medlars and cornelian cherries. This is entirely in line with the city council resolution "Edible city - more fruit trees and fruit bushes for Jena" from February 2021.
"Allotment garden parks are experiencing a nationwide boom in order to better integrate gardens into the public green system of cities and to make the diverse impressions and recreational value of gardens accessible to those seeking recreation without their own garden," says Mayor Christian Gerlitz and adds: "I am particularly pleased that we have now succeeded in doing this here at Talstein together with the allotment garden association in the scenically attractive Saalen area."
