Another aid shipment on its way to Ukraine
Another aid transport with relief supplies from Jena and Erlangen for Ukraine started on Wednesday afternoon. The twin cities of Jena and Erlangen, which cooperate closely in their aid work for Ukraine, are sending a total of eight emergency power generators, each with a capacity of 60 kVA, to Browary and Bila Zerkwa, both towns near Kiev. Due to Russian attacks, there are repeated power outages there. Each of the devices weighs approx. 1.3 tons and can completely supply a large kindergarten or a small school with electricity. The transport is expected to arrive at its destination at the weekend. The generators are financed by a funding project of the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Erlangen and Jena organized the transport.
Jena and Erlangen entered into a solidarity partnership with Browary near Kiev in the fall of 2022. Jena is also cooperating with the city of Bila Zerkwa through the GIZ project. Both cities are similar in size to Jena and have been affected by the war, primarily through the care of internally displaced persons.
