Application start for the i-work company award 2026

28.04.2026

Practical and with a lot of know-how for the companies: This year, the Jena Economic Development Corporation (JenaWirtschaft) is awarding the "i-work - Intercultural Business Award for Jena and the region" with an enhanced concept. The award recognizes commitment to international skilled workers and diversity in the team. Companies from Jena and the Saale-Holzland district can apply now until 31.05.2026. This year's application is possible online and offers concrete added value for your own company practice.

Workshop and support for intercultural issues

"The i-work is not just an award, but should be even more of a support offer for local businesses," says project manager Cornelia Meyerrose. "We want to support and strengthen companies that actively shape intercultural cooperation or are on their way to doing so. The size of the company, sector or current level of experience are irrelevant."

Organizations from Jena and the region with international employees or who would like to recruit international specialists in the future can apply. Companies that are still at the beginning of this journey are also invited to apply.

New i-work 2026: Less effort, more impact

Based on the experience of previous years, the competition has undergone extensive further development. Companies can simply apply online and receive an advanced workshop on intercultural competence and organizational development for their commitment. The 2026 award winner will also receive individual intercultural coaching on a topic of their choice.

Internationalization as a strategic task

JenaWirtschaft Managing Director Wilfried Röpke also knows that intercultural diversity remains important: "International skilled workers are a key component in ensuring that our business location remains fit for the future. With i-work, we are making visible how companies are successfully using this diversity and motivating others to do the same."

This goal is also supported by the municipality: the patron of the competition is the Mayor of Jena, Dr. Thomas Nitzsche. "i-work 2026 offers the opportunity to make commitment visible, learn from each other and become part of a strong network for international skilled workers in the region," says the Lord Mayor. "Jena stands for cosmopolitanism, diversity and tolerance. These values are the basis for the continued success of our city. And that is why I am delighted to support the i-work intercultural business award as a mouthpiece."

From the application to the award

After the online application, a personal interview takes place. A jury with intercultural experience then reviews the applications and visits selected companies on site. The award itself will be presented at a ceremony on 09.09.2026.
