Ascension weekend and Corona

20.05.2020

Please observe contact restrictions and minimum distances despite excursions

Ahead of the Ascension weekend, which is traditionally used by many families and larger groups for excursions and hikes, Benjamin Koppe, Head of Security and Head of the Department for Extraordinary Events, points out the applicable contact restrictions.

People are allowed to travel in pairs, with people living in the same household or a maximum of one other household. This also applies on Father's Day. It is not possible to travel in large groups this year. This is due to the current Thuringian regulation. There will be no ban on alcohol or handcarts, as some districts and cities in Germany have considered, in Jena. Rather, it is crucial that people exercise moderation of their own accord. You can't regulate that with an ordinance, it's up to each individual,

says Koppe. This year, Jena's local excursion destinations and the surrounding area are once again inviting people to be outdoors and enjoy nature, preferably with the family. The rule of maintaining a minimum distance of 1.5 meters still applies for Father's Day hikes, even when stopping off along hiking trails or in meadows and parks.

Hygiene and distancing rules in restaurants

In restaurants that are already open, the hygiene and distancing rules must still be observed. Tables must be at least 1.5 meters apart and only people from a maximum of two households may sit together at the table. Wherever the minimum distance of 1.5 meters is not maintained, a face mask must be worn. This applies to staff when serving and clearing up, but also to guests when entering and leaving the restaurant and when leaving their seats. Mouth and nose coverings do not have to be worn at the table. The registration of visitors in the indoor catering area must also be continued on Ascension weekend.

Avoiding gatherings of people in front of and inside stores

Head of Department Benjamin Koppe also takes up a request from the food retailers to avoid crowds of people in front of and inside the stores, which was brought to the city administration to be passed on to the public:

Our grocers advocate not only going shopping on Friday after the national holiday, but also using today, Wednesday, and Saturday for shopping,

said Koppe.
