Awakening interest in vocational training in Jena companies
(Jena, 24.02.2026) According to the Jena Economic Development Corporation (JenaWirtschaft), you have "great prospects all round" with an apprenticeship at one of the local companies. To spread this message as widely as possible, JenaWirtschaft is launching an information campaign in February and March about this career path after leaving school. The aim is to inform as many Jena school pupils as possible about the wide range of apprenticeships in Jena and Jena-specific job profiles and to connect many companies with suitable applicants via the training portal at work-in-jena.de. The application countdown for school-based training is already underway: young people interested in training can apply to the four vocational schools in Jena until March 31.
JenaWirtschaft is promoting the website work-in-jena.de/ausbildung with large-scale posters, advertising on local public transport and via social media. This gives young people a realistic picture of various professions in Jena. Based on around 20 interviews with former trainees, the website offers authentic insights into the day-to-day work of a wide range of professions - from healthcare, optics and photonics to the digital economy and skilled trades.
Current apprenticeship vacancies - automatically listed
Very importantly, the work-in-jena.de portal also lists the majority of current apprenticeship vacancies offered by Jena companies and institutions. The vacancies are automatically read out and bundled - from small craft businesses to international high-tech corporations. "The advantage for Jena companies lies in the automation," says Marina Flämig, Head of Marketing at JenaWirtschaft. "The jobs don't have to be entered manually, but flow automatically from the company websites into the job portal."
"Jena's companies - whether in the skilled trades, manufacturing industry or service providers - need well-qualified employees," says Jennifer Wunderlich, project manager for training. "Many are committed to training their own young talent. We support these companies by explaining the benefits of vocational training to young people and showing them specifically where they can apply."
Valuable support for Jena companies too
Especially in challenging times, it is crucial for companies to continue training, says Wunderlich. "Those who continue to invest in young talent now will secure skilled workers in the long term and remain competitive. Modern training opportunities, contemporary learning and working conditions and the continuous development of content are key success factors." It is important to stay on the ball - which is why JenaWirtschaft also supports local companies with targeted advice on all aspects of training. All information: work-in-jena.de/ausbildung
