Award: 6th Jena Children's and Youth Environmental Prize
Together with Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck, the city of Jena is awarding the 6th Children & Youth Environmental Prize. This year it is about a special substance. One that is both a foodstuff and a means of transportation, but also a habitat and a solvent: water.
Under the motto "Water is valuable", the aim is to draw attention to the enormous importance of water for nature and people.
Content of the competition
The prize encourages children and young people to engage with the topic of water and how to deal with it - and to become active with projects.
A few suggestions :
- Do you know where your water comes from - before it comes out of the tap? Where does it go when it runs into the sink? Go on a search and find out.
- Have you ever thought about how much water is in a cell phone, a T-shirt or your lunch? This refers to the amount of water used to manufacture products and food (keyword: virtual water).
- Where do you use a lot of water (directly or indirectly) and can you save water? Should we save water at all or do we have enough water in Germany?
- Water as a habitat: What observations have you made at a river, stream, lake or pond? What animals and plants are there? What is the water quality of our bodies of water like?
- Last summer showed us that rivers can dry up and groundwater levels can fall. Have you seen dried-up waters in Jena? What happened there?
