Award-winning Jena facades on show in exhibition
The 31st Jena Façade Prize was awarded a few days ago. All of this year's entries are now on display in an exhibition in the Rathausdiele. The pictures can be viewed free of charge until January 15, 2024 during the opening hours of the historic town hall: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 am to 4 pm.
The 31st Jena Façade Prize
This year, the main prize of the Jena Façade Award went to the Fraunhofer Strasse 8 institute building.
Further awards were given to:
- the residential building at Hausbergstraße 25
- the new administrative building of Asphericon GmbH at Stockholmer Strasse 9
- the listed former villa Am Zementwerk, which has been converted into an office building
The properties at Hausbergstrasse 25 and Stockholmer Strasse 9 also received the special prize for energy efficiency.
Background: The Façade Award
The façade prize has been awarded since 1993. Its aim is to highlight and reward particularly exemplary renovation and design work on façades, to thank building owners, to highlight craftsmanship and to honor the companies and planning offices involved in the construction. Since 2009, the city has also offered a special prize for energy efficiency, which can be awarded for exemplary energy solutions.
An independent jury consisting of representatives of the sponsors, architects and representatives of the city selects the winning project, for which the façade prize is then awarded. This year, 17 sponsors provided prize money totaling around 10,000 euros.
