Baby changing kit supports Jena families on the move

13.02.2026

It often happens at the worst possible moment, especially when you're on the go: the diaper is full - and you don't have anything with you right now. To help families in such situations in an uncomplicated way, the Jena Alliance for Families and the city of Jena have designed a practical diaper changing kit for on the go.

The offer is aimed at parents of newborns and toddlers, but also at grandparents, for example, who are out and about with baby carriages, and is intended to make everyday life with a baby a little more relaxed. In future, the nappy changing kit will be handed out as an emergency nappy changing set at the Family Information Point (FiP) at the Citizens' Services on Engelplatz - where families register their children and apply for parental allowance, for example. There is also a modern baby changing area and a quiet breastfeeding room directly on site, making it easy for parents to visit the city center with their baby. A parking space for baby carriages also allows parents to use the public toilets on site in a relaxed manner.

"Jena is family-friendly. This should also be reflected in everyday life," says Kathleen Lützkendorf, Head of Department. "With the baby changing kit and the new services offered by the citizen services, we are supporting families in a very practical way. We are emphasizing this: Families are welcome here!"

The nappy-changing kit was developed and designed by ART-KON-TOR, with Sparkasse Jena-Saale-Holzland providing the funding. The Saale-Betreuungswerk der Lebenshilfe is helping with the logistics. Sustainability is also at the forefront, so the illustrative changing kit bag can be used again and again and refilled with your own products.

"As a partner in the Jena Alliance for Families, we are very happy to support this project," explains Michael Rabich, CEO of Sparkasse Jena-Saale-Holzland. "This underlines our commitment to the region and we are delighted that families and our customers are benefiting directly."

A noticeable added value is also seen in the citizen services. "For almost all parents, we are one of the first points of contact after the birth," emphasizes Head of Specialist Services Olaf Schroth. "Being able to offer practical support as well as advice strengthens our service concept."

In addition to handing out kits to families, institutions and companies can also purchase nappy-changing kits and pass them on to customers or employees. Those who participate contribute to the family-friendliness of the city and at the same time send a visible signal as a family-conscious employer.

This makes it clear in Jena: family friendliness is not an abstract goal - it is lived practice.
