Bratwurst roast for German-American Friendship Day
On October 22, 2024, the city of Jena and the US Consulate General in Leipzig will celebrate the good ties between Thuringia and the USA with the 4th German-American Friendship Day and the almost traditional bratwurst roast. From 12:00 US Consul General John R. Crosby and Lord Mayor Thomas Nitzsche will be at the grill on the Holzmarkt. Everyone who wants to is invited to join in the conversation and enjoy a free bratwurst - while stocks last.
Background
German-American Friendship Day is actually celebrated on October 6. On this day, the USA commemorates the German heritage in North America and refers to the founding of Germantown, whose founders landed in Philadelphia on October 6, 1683 under the leadership of the German preacher Franz Daniel Pastorius. This year, the celebration in Jena was postponed due to the vacations.
