Bratwurst roast for German-American Friendship Day

On October 21, 2025, the city of Jena and the US Consulate General in Leipzig will celebrate the 5th German-American Friendship Day with the almost traditional bratwurst roast. From 12:15 pm, Lord Mayor Thomas Nitzsche and representatives of the US Consulate General will be at the grill on the Holzmarkt. All who wish are invited to sample the roasted results and enjoy a free bratwurst - while stocks last.

Background

The German-American Friendship Day has been celebrated by the city of Jena and the US Consulate General Leipzig on October 6 in recent years. On this day, a day of remembrance is celebrated in the USA that commemorates the German heritage in North America and refers to the founding of Germantown, whose founders landed in Philadelphia on October 6, 1683 under the leadership of the German preacher Franz Daniel Pastorius. This year, as last year, the celebration will be postponed in Jena due to the vacations.
