Certificates can now be ordered online

25.07.2023

Marriage, civil partnership, birth and death certificates can now be applied for and paid for completely electronically in Jena. Those who live in Jena can choose the digital route or still pick up their certificates in person. However, those who no longer live in the city but were born or married here can save themselves a potentially long trip for an on-site appointment at the registry office by using the new online solution.

Anyone who wants to apply for a corresponding document can access the registry office's specialized software directly via the Thuringian Application Portal for Administrative Services (ThAVEL). With the help of the integrated ePayBL online payment service, the certificates can be paid for directly during the ordering process by direct debit, credit card or Giropay.

"With the complete digitization of this administrative service, the application process is now contactless and possible around the clock," says Simone Rost, team leader at the Jena registry office. The certificates applied for and paid for online are then sent by mail. The start-up phase has shown that the digital option has already been well received by applicants, says Rost.
