City of Jena imposes further house bans for the Ernst Abbe sports field

23.07.2025

Due to the incidents during the regional league match between FC Carl Zeiss Jena and BSG Chemie Leipzig on November 30, 2024, the city of Jena has issued a total of 61 bans in a staged procedure. As early as the spring, 14 people were initially banned from the stadium. On the basis of further investigations by the Thuringia state police, further measures are now being taken against additional identified participants.

The allegations center on suspicion of breach of the peace in accordance with Section 125 of the Criminal Code. The individuals concerned are accused of, among other things, breaking through and damaging barriers and forcibly entering restricted areas of the stadium. The incidents had a direct impact on security in the stadium and the staging of the match.

Mayor and Head of Public Order Benjamin Koppe explains:

"As a city, we see it as our responsibility to react decisively to behavior that endangers security. The bans serve to protect everyone who wants to attend a soccer match peacefully and support FC Carl Zeiss Jena."

The bans are valid for a period of one year and apply to all home matches of FC Carl Zeiss Jena. On these days, the persons concerned are prohibited from entering the stadium grounds.

Koppe adds:

"The safety of all spectators is our top priority. The bans that have now been imposed are a consistent response to serious incidents that have no place in the stadium environment. Soccer in Jena should be a shared, positive experience for everyone. This requires a reliable framework that guarantees safety and allows the club to hold its matches reliably. The city of Jena is in regular contact with the police, the club and other bodies involved."
