The city of Jena's defect reporter is becoming even more user-friendly

24.11.2023

The City of Jena's defect tracker is being updated, making it even more user-friendly. The new version will go live on 28.11.2023. On this day, the platform will be unavailable from 8:00 to 14:00 due to the changeover.
The update takes into account the changed technical requirements and the wishes of the users.

The following optimizations will be made:

  • In future, up to three images can be uploaded in portrait and landscape format. Previously, only one image could be attached to a message, which was displayed in a partial section.
  • From now on, location details can also be entered via a street name search.
  • Open defects are displayed more clearly with symbols in the map overview.
  • All defects can be viewed in the archive overview and found using the search function.
  • For greater transparency, the defect detail view will always contain the signature of the department processing the defect after the update.
  • All relevant telephone numbers for acute concerns are bundled together in an emergency contact list.
  • Pop-up messages also provide information on special topics such as closing times, new developments or availability

The current 14 categories - traffic lights, discriminatory advertising, water, lampposts, garbage, public transport, playgrounds/sports facilities, urban trees, urban greenery, urban forest/hiking trail, road/walking path/cycle path, street cleaning/winter service, street signs and miscellaneous - remain unchanged.

Background: Five years of the Jena deficiency report

At its meeting on 15.03.2017, the city council decided that Jena should have a defect detector. After a development phase, the defect reporter went online on 01.01.2018. Since then, users have been able to submit their concerns to the city, regardless of whether they relate to damage of any kind, illegally disposed waste or other issues. Entries can be made anonymously in order to keep the service as low-threshold as possible. Entries are only approved before they are published. This ensures that sufficient information is provided to rectify a defect, that it really is a defect and that a minimum level of courtesy is maintained.

Since its introduction, the defect report has become increasingly popular, even beyond Jena's city limits. While 639 defects were submitted in 2018, there were already 2,379 entries by the end of October 2023. A total of 12,515 defects have been received since the launch.
