The city of light in digital focus

29.10.2019

Jena is the host city for the German government's 2020 Digital Summit, Chancellor Angela Merkel announced today.

Lord Mayor Thomas Nitzsche sees the decision as an accolade for the local digital economy:

The high-tech location of Jena, with its strong digital skills, is exactly the right meeting place for forward-looking ideas from politics, business, science and society.

Friedrich Schiller University Jena will be an important partner in this. More than 1,000 participants from all over Germany are expected to attend the digital summit.

Benjamin Koppe, Head of Digitalization, also welcomed the decision with great enthusiasm. Together with the Thuringian Ministry of Economic Affairs, he had campaigned for Jena as the venue.

We see ourselves as the center of Thuringia's digital landscape. That is why it is a good choice to discuss the central issues of digital change here in Jena.
