Colorful celebration for World Children's Day in the old streetcar depot
Under the motto "My voice, my future - be loud for children's rights", a big celebration will be held in Jena on 20.09.2025 to mark World Children's Day. This year, it will not be on Rasenmühleninsel as usual, but exceptionally in the House of Youth and Technology (Dornburger Str. 17) in the old streetcar depot.
Between 14:00 and 18:00, children, young people, parents and grandparents are cordially invited to try out numerous free activities. More than 30 stands from a wide variety of associations and sponsors invite you to join in, while numerous other groups have organized a varied stage programme.
"A big thank you to everyone who has prepared this great program,"
said Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche, who will officially open the festival. World Children's Day was introduced in 1954 and has been celebrated regularly with a festival in Jena since 2007.
This year, the focus is on what can be done and achieved with one's own voice. The organizers, including the Kindersprachbrücke and the Demokratischer Jugendring Jena e.V., are therefore addressing all children and young people in Jena:
"Together we want to become loud for a world in which children's rights apply to everyone. What do you want to speak up for? Let's celebrate our voices and our rights on this day and make sure they are heard everywhere!"
In addition to many creative games and craft activities by youth associations and clubs, the program also includes a World Children's Day rally, dance, martial arts, acrobatics and music.
Painting competition for schoolchildren
Jena's schools were also involved in the run-up to the event and teachers were provided with materials on the topic of children's rights. Girls and boys from first to sixth grade were invited to design a picture for the Children's Day poster. More than 130 entries - some of which were created in groups - were submitted to the Democratic Youth Ring. The winning picture will be chosen at an awards ceremony on September 20, and ten works will also be awarded special prizes. The young artists will be interviewed about their picture ideas at the award ceremony. All prize-winning pictures can be admired on Children's Day.
