Commemoration and wreath-laying ceremony June 17

Jena played an important role in the events surrounding the popular uprising on June 17, 1953.

To commemorate the events and to remember the victims, the city of Jena cordially invites you to a commemorative event on the occasion of the popular uprising in 1953:

Wednesday, June 17, 2020, 4 p.m.
Memorial to the victims of political persecution in the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ) and in the GDR between 1945 and 1989,

Green area at the memorial Gerbergasse / Am Anger 15.

The alternative location to the memorial plaque at the Sparkasse building was chosen in order to have more space for the event.

Mayor Thomas Nitzsche will speak words of remembrance.

Participants are requested to wear a face covering and to keep a minimum distance of 1.5 m from others.
