These days mark the 30th anniversary of the events of the fall of 1989. To commemorate this moving and life-changing time, the Evangelical Lutheran Church District and the City of Jena invite you to a festive service and ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution of 1989.

  • Time: Sunday, 03.11.2019, 14.00 hrs
  • Place: St. Michael's City Church

Churches were also starting points and centers of the Peaceful Revolution in Jena. This will be commemorated on November 3, 1989 in a festive service in St. Michael's City Church (sermon: Provost Dr. Friederike Spengler) and with a subsequent ceremony. On the occasion of this special event, the festive cantata composed by Ludger Vollmer for the 30th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution "EIN JEGLICHES HAT SEINE ZEIT" for soloists, choir, organ and orchestra will be premiered.

Ludger Vollmer worked for many years in Jena and Weimar and now lives in Hamburg. The libretto was written by the writer and songwriter Stephan Krawczyk. As a protagonist of the opposition in the GDR, he was closely associated with Jena until his deportation to the West in 1988. The festive cantata was commissioned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church District of Jena, sponsored by the City of Jena/JenaKultur and the Evangelical Church in Central Germany.
