Connection in Jena-Zwätzen easier again
The city of Jena has kept its word: As Mayor Christian Gerlitz promised in the city council on July 3, 2019, a footpath and cycle path was built at short notice between Otto-Liebmann-Ring and the Jena-Zwätzen railroad stop. This measure was necessary after the private path between the neighborhood and the stop, which was popular with local residents, was closed off by the owner. This resulted in a detour of around 500 meters for the residents, which also required them to cross the B88.
"The path that has now been completed not only offers residents direct access to the bus stop, but also to the local sports facility. This is particularly important for children and young people. That's why we were happy to comply with the request of the Jena-Zwätzen district council," emphasizes Mayor Gerlitz.
The path was created by Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ). For this purpose, a culvert was dug through the noise barrier, the area along the railroad embankment was cut free and the path was paved. The measure cost around 7800 euros in total. The path is a temporary solution until Leibnizstraße meets Brückenstraße again.
