Construction of the athletics stadium to start in 2020
Construction of the new athletics stadium on Wöllnitzer Straße in Jena can begin this year.
New plans for outdoor facility and functional building
Head of Sports Benjamin Koppe presented the new plans for the outdoor facility and functional building on Wednesday together with Thomas Graf, KIJ Head of School and Sports Real Estate.
The functional building in its new form is an acceptable solution for the clubs as users,
said Koppe at an on-site meeting with representatives of the Jena Athletics Club (LC), SV Schott and the city sports association. According to the head of department, it is particularly pleasing that the children's sports school of SV Schott will find a new home on the site and that synergies will be created with the LC in the use of the multi-purpose room provided for this purpose in the functional building.
Excavated earth with contaminated soil caused high disposal costs
The costs for the construction of the athletics stadium had risen due to the high costs associated with the disposal of the excavated soil and the significantly more extensive ground improvements.
Reducing the number of functional rooms cuts costs
By reducing the number of functional rooms, we can realize the necessary savings in such a way that the areas for the clubs only have to be reduced insignificantly. On the other hand, the installation of a floodlight system is a positive development, so that the outdoor facilities can also be used in the evening. LC, the sports high school, the USV and the university share the usage times,
emphasized Koppe.
The athletics facility is to be realized as an A-facility as planned. The Thuringian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, which is responsible for the project, has promised that the project will commence without funding and a higher funding quota. This means that the construction projects for the functional building and the outdoor facility can be separated in time and construction can begin as soon as possible.
