Cultural Committee adopts cultural development concept

11.12.2020

After a total of four consultations, the Culture Committee adopted its cultural development concept for Jena on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. The members of the committee voted unanimously in favor of the proposal. The committee chairman, Dr. Jörg Vogel, emphasized the importance of the concept for the upcoming budget discussion and recommended the resolution.

A lot of work had gone into the concept and it was an ambitious paper - this was the tenor of the debate. A citizen survey on the cultural landscape in Jena was the basis for the concept. The results were incorporated and can be found in the document. Jonas Zipf, Director of JenaKultur, informed the audience that there will now be an administrative cycle until the paper can be approved by the city council.

An editorial group had formulated the development concept. It contains key cornerstones and objectives for the development of culture in Jena. Zipf pointed out that a budget proviso applies. The political paper of the Culture Committee offers a set of tools, a matrix of criteria that should enable prioritization. The aim is also to provide a rational basis for decision-making for what is likely to be an emotional budget debate.

The cultural development concept is presented in a video at www.kulturkonzept-jena.de. Depending on the further course of the pandemic, it is expected that the proposal will be presented to the city council for a decision at the end of January.
