Due to the Corona restrictions, the events where the inhabitants were able to vote on the spot unfortunately had to be cancelled.
Thus, the only option left for the people would be online voting.
"We don't want a whole bunch of people to be excluded from voting. Therefore, we have created a new voting option and are extending the voting period until 10.12.20 - the online voting will also continue until then," says Christian Gerlitz, Mayor and Head of Department for Urban Development and Environment.
From now on it is also possible to fill out a ballot at home. But to get access to these ballot papers, you need an internet access or friends and acquaintances with an internet connection. This is because, due to the pandemic, the ballot papers cannot be laid out and collected in the city administration's facilities, but must be downloaded and printed out from the participation portal.

The slips of paper can either be handed in at the deadline mailbox of the city of Jena (Am Anger 15), at the district mayors (OTBM) of your district or at the district offices in Neulobeda and Winzerla. On the participation portal there is an overview of all OTBMs whose mailboxes can be used for delivery.
"I am very grateful to the district mayors and the district offices in Neulobeda and Winzerla for their quick support. In this way, the ways to vote can be kept very short," Christian Gerlitz notes.
The ballot papers should be placed in an envelope and labeled as follows:
Central Coordination Office Citizen Participation,
Vote on the civil budget.
They can also be sent by post. The exact address is on the ballot papers.
The balance of the online voting so far (as of 6.11.2020):
- 404 registered residents
- 1,160 votes (232 persons) were cast
