Deposit rings in the city of Jena

The city of Jena is pleased to announce the installation of new deposit rings in the city area. This initiative, which will be financed from the 2023 citizens' budget, is the result of a committed proposal from the citizenry, which came 7th with 394 votes and thus emerged as the best-placed proposal without the support of associations or district councils. The total costs amount to 2,000 euros. The KSJ is responsible for implementation.

There had already been a trial with deposit collection points in Paradise in the past, but this did not bring the desired success. The version used at the time was often used as an additional waste container, which posed a risk for the deposit collectors and KSJ employees, as waste such as leftover food, broken glass and dog waste bags accumulated alongside empties.

"I am grateful to those who submitted the proposal for giving new impetus to this important issue. The new deposit rings are an excellent solution and provide a good basis for effectively collecting empties in our city. I appeal to the people of Jena to use these rings exclusively for returnable bottles and cans so that together we can make a positive contribution to cleanliness and sustainability in our city," explains Mayor Christian Gerlitz.

In close cooperation with the KSJ and in consultation with the submitters, locations were selected that are heavily frequented and where a lot of empties accumulate, such as on Wenigenjenaer Ufer, in Paradies and in Ludwig-Weimar-Gasse (seating area at the AOK-Plus building towards Löbdergraben). This new initiative is not only intended to promote cleanliness in Jena, but also to raise awareness of recycling and sustainability.

The city of Jena is convinced that the installation of the deposit rings is an important step in the right direction and hopes for the support of all citizens.
