Devastating fire in Alt-Lobeda under control

14.09.2019

On Saturday, September 14, a fire was reported in Lobeda-Altstadt, Alte Straße, at 8:21 pm. A glow of fire could already be seen on the approach to this property, so the alarm level was immediately raised to major fire. When the emergency services arrived, the entire roof truss of the half-timbered house was already in flames. The residents were not at home at the time.

Due to the very cramped conditions in the street, a staging area was set up in the Lobeda volunteer fire department building for units moving up. These were dispatched from there to support the emergency services at the scene. Thanks to this massive deployment of forces, the fire was brought under control around 9 p.m. to such an extent that it was prevented from spreading any further.

At the time of this report, the full extent of the damage cannot yet be quantified as the extinguishing work is still ongoing. The building suffered considerable material damage. The roof truss is completely affected by the fire and has partially collapsed. There were no casualties.

The Lobeda, Winzerla, Göschwitz and Wöllnitz volunteer fire departments were deployed in addition to the entire professional fire department. In addition, a support unit from the civil protection department provided the emergency services with food and drink. A total of 70 emergency services were on site.

The emergency services were supported by the police. In particular, they had to intervene due to obstruction by onlookers. The Jena-Mitte volunteer fire department was responsible for securing the fireworks display at the Old Town Festival and was on standby for the city area.

The on-call service of the emergency pastoral care was deployed to support the residents who had been notified by the police in the meantime.

The remaining extinguishing work will continue into the early hours of the morning.
