Donations handed over to the Jena hospice

29.01.2024

Thanks to various hard-working people from Jena and the surrounding area, the amount of crown caps collected at the recycling centers of Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ(link is external) ) almost doubled compared to 2022. The Jena Hospice and Palliative Foundation can therefore look forward to an extraordinary donation:

KSJ has now handed over a cheque for 660 euros to the foundation on the hospice's premises. Uwe Feige, Plant Manager of the KSJ, presented the symbolic cheque to Prof. Dr. Ulrich Wedding, Chairman of the Board of the Hospice and Palliative Foundation.

Uwe Feige emphasized the importance of commitment to local organizations and praised the outstanding work of Hospiz Jena gGmbH in supporting seriously ill people and their families. Since its foundation, Hospiz Jena gGmbH has been committed to supporting people with life-shortening illnesses and their relatives. The hospice creates a supportive community through a wide range of offers and services and accompanies people on their journey in the last phase of life.

The campaign is an expression of social responsibility and commitment to the local community. KSJ plans to continue supporting initiatives in the future and thereby have a positive impact on the lives of people in Jena alongside its day-to-day work, Uwe Feige continued.

Within twelve months, 1,950 kilograms of crown caps were collected. This corresponds to almost 1,000,000 caps. The collection garbage cans now have a permanent place at the recycling centers, meaning that the collection of this valuable metal will continue in 2024. The proceeds from the collection will benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Jena - "300 kg have already been collected since the start of the year," adds Uwe Feige. The house has been offering families of seriously ill children a temporary home since 1992. The new building in Jena-Lobeda was opened in December 2021.
