Double budget 2023/2024 of the city of Jena approved
The Thuringian State Office of Administration has finally reviewed the 2023/2024 double budget of the City of Jena and approved loans for the "Kommunale Immobilien Jena" municipal real estate company totaling EUR 45,540,000 as well as commitment appropriations for the "Kommunale Immobilien Jena" and "Kommunalservice Jena" municipal real estate companies.
The budget volume amounts to EUR 406 million in 2023 and a total of EUR 425 million in 2024.
Important investments possible
With the budget approval, the city of Jena can now make important investments. For example, the renovation of the Erlanger Allee 151 school site is to be tackled and the new library and stadium renovation projects, including the cycle paths in the Oberaue, are to be completed. The extensive voluntary services provided by the city of Jena can be maintained at the existing level. The priorities set in the budget planning - digitalization and climate protection - now have significantly higher funding than in previous years.
"I am very pleased that the municipal supervisory authority has approved our budget estimates, thus creating a stable framework for the city budget and the municipal enterprises. We are thus well positioned for 2023 and 2024 and can also react to unexpected problems," summarizes Finance Director Benjamin Koppe.
However, the Thuringian State Administration Office has also clearly pointed out that the city expects a tight liquidity situation in the five-year planning period. Regardless of how well-founded further new offers in the voluntary sector, even higher standards in the compulsory sector or relief for citizens may be, there is no room for maneuver.
