Kurt Dannenberg (CDU), Mayor and Head of Finance, Security and Citizen Services for the city of Gera, and Benjamin Koppe (CDU), Head of Finance, Security and Citizen Services for the city of Jena, met once again on Wednesday, 24.04.2019 at the Jena control centre to further concretize the "East Thuringia control centre network".

The two heads of department had already agreed in advance of the joint working meeting and reiterated that the direction taken, which has been pursued intensively for years, corresponds to that demanded by the Free State and the health insurance companies. "We feel that our work to date has been confirmed and appreciated. We have already set the decisive course for a future-proof control center and are confident that this will now also be supported by the Free State in the short term and in an uncomplicated manner with the promised funding. The innovations that have been initiated must not be slowed down by hesitant implementation," explains department head Koppe.

In Eastern Thuringia, the aim is to network the control centers in Jena and Gera in order to create the necessary redundancy as well as the basis for overcoming future challenges. The increased demands on staffing and the constantly evolving technology are challenges that are being tackled together. In addition to increasing the level of safety, the East Thuringia control centre network is also intended to optimize the available resources and thus relieve the burden on all those involved in the medium term.

Mayor Dannenberg adds: "The East Thuringia control centre network should serve as a model for the state's initiative to optimize the structure of the central control centres. We will continue on our joint path to further concretize the East Thuringia control centre network in the form of a special purpose agreement between the cities of Jena and Gera, because I am convinced that all local authorities - in addition to Jena and Gera, the districts of Greiz and Altenburger Land, the Saale-Orla district and the Saale-Holzland district - will benefit from this in two ways."

Benjamin Koppe also makes it clear that Jena would welcome further cooperation with the city of Weimar, even if the Thuringian Ministry of the Interior and Municipal Affairs recommends that it should move to the Erfurt control center. He also offers the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt continued cooperation in a spirit of partnership.
