Excellent BGM

21.10.2022

On October 12, 2022, the Healthy Work Day of the Healthy Work Network took place once again at the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences (EAH) Jena.

The highlight of the event was the awarding of the Thuringian Seal for Healthy Work. The Eigenbetrieb Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ) and the city administration of Jena received the gold award.

The KSJ already achieved this seal in bronze in 2019 - the year in which occupational health management (OHM) was introduced at the company. Special thanks are due to Karoline Bergk, the BGM officer at KSJ.

The city administration of Jena (core administration and JenaKultur, jenarbeit, Kommunale Immobilien Jena) completed the multi-stage certification process for the first time. Special thanks go to Ines Apel, retired occupational health management officer, who initiated, coordinated and managed the process for the city administration in the first place since 2019. Due to the pandemic, the award could only be made in 2022. Nina Ballenberger will take over and continue this important task as the new health manager for the city of Jena.

The seal is awarded to Thuringian companies and public service institutions that can demonstrate a high level of commitment to employee health and health-promoting working conditions based on defined quality criteria.

The certificate is awarded for a period of 3 years and must then be recertified in a new procedure. After a comprehensive application phase, an on-site inspection is carried out with the expert jury members of the Healthy Work Network. On behalf of the city administration, the specialist fire department was able to convince the jury with its health measures. Many thanks for this to Peter Schörnig, Marco Fohmann and Wilfried Schau.

On behalf of the Lord Mayor, Dr. Thomas Nitzsche, we would like to congratulate all participants in the health circles and steering groups on this success.

The entire city of Jena sees this award as an obligation to continue to promote the topic of healthy working in a motivated, innovative and joint manner for the benefit of our employees. We are delighted with the interest and commitment shown.

Background information:

The Healthy Work Network in Thuringia, which is based at the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences in Jena, supports Thuringian companies and public service institutions in the introduction and implementation of healthy work measures and in the search for needs-oriented service offerings, and is responsible for the certification process and the awarding of the Thuringian Healthy Work Seal.
The aim is to secure health measures in Thuringian companies in the long term, thereby maintaining and promoting the work and performance of employees and contributing to employee retention and the recruitment of skilled workers.

The seal is awarded to all interested companies and public service institutions that voluntarily undergo an audit of their health-promoting measures on the basis of defined criteria and:

  • Location/company headquarters/branch in Thuringia,
  • have a contact person for the topic of health in the company,
  • can demonstrate a high level of commitment in the areas of employee health and health-promoting working conditions and measures,
  • have established a holistic occupational health management system for their own employees that is anchored in the company's/enterprise's management system.

The expression of interest can be submitted on an ongoing basis. The questionnaire, including supporting documents, must be submitted in full by March 31.

The seal is awarded for 3 years. After this period, the company can request a re-examination by the jury. Re-certification takes place after the respective company has submitted its application.

The seal is awarded in bronze, silver or gold.

The jury is made up of representatives of the Thuringian Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health, Women and Family, the Chambers of Industry and Commerce of East Thuringia in Gera and Erfurt, the District Craftsmen's Association, AOK PLUS - The Health Insurance Fund for Saxony and Thuringia, the State Association for Health Promotion Thuringia and other interest groups.
