Fire department takes stock of stormy night
The fire departments in Jena had to respond to seven incidents in connection with storm "Ylenia" between Wednesday and Thursday night.
"Only branches, signs and a fallen tree had to be cleared. Fortunately, the night was quieter than expected," said Benjamin Koppe, Head of Public Order, summing up the night of the storm.
Both the professional fire department and the Lützeroda and Isserstedt volunteer fire departments were deployed. Gusts of wind forecast for Thursday afternoon lost their force before reaching the Jena city area.
At around 8 o'clock, the wind gauge at the Am Anger 28 hazard prevention center reported a maximum speed of 70 km/h. Originally, wind speeds of up to 110 km/h were expected for the city area.
The situation was different at the central control center. Here, 25 operations were coordinated for the fire brigades in the Saale-Holzland district and as many as 46 operations for the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt.
In the coming days, especially on Friday evening, restrictions and dangers are to be expected due to the storm.
At the same time, the level of the Saale river in Jena is expected to reach the beginning of the reporting period, although it is not expected to exceed the more critical reporting level 1. The bridges in the city area are currently being checked by the professional fire department for floating debris and the effects of water. The reason for the rise in the Saale water level is last night's rain and the thaw in the mountains in the Thuringian Forest.
