First Jena Butterfly Night a success
The "First Jena Butterfly Night", which took place as part of the Long Day of Nature on June 7, 2019 on the grounds of the city forestry administration in Paradies, was a complete success.
Almost 80 visitors
78 interested people, including 15 children, accepted the invitation and attended the opening presentation by Dr. Frank Hünefeld, nature conservation team leader at the city administration and butterfly expert. Afterwards, butterflies and other nocturnal insects were attracted with special light traps. In total, almost 20 butterfly species found their way into the light that evening, along with countless other insects such as beetles and caddisflies.
For those who wanted to take a short break from "butterfly watching", the employees of the municipal forestry administration had set up an atmospheric ambience with a fire bowl and Swedish fires, and there was also plenty to eat and drink with bread on a stick by the fire. Unfortunately, a sudden storm brought the event to an abrupt end shortly before midnight.
Next "Jena Butterfly Night" in August
The next "Jena Butterfly Night" will take place in August in the Botanical Garden of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, as part of the special exhibition "Garden Finds City". The exact date, meeting point and time will be announced in good time.
