Fitness trail at the Lichtenhain bridge can be used again

The fitness trail on the Lichtenhain bridge in Oberaue is now open to the public again. Two of the three pieces of fitness equipment, the low bar combination and the pull-up bars, can be used again following repair work.

After a routine inspection by Kommunalservice Jena (KSJ) in September last year revealed that the fall protection installed was under water due to rainfall, the stations had to be closed. Initially, the entire fall protection was removed and the water level at the individual equipment was monitored for several weeks. This revealed that the parallel bars were permanently surrounded by water. After considering various retrofitting options, this led to the decision to move this piece of equipment to a nearby location in the direction of the running hall.

"The foundations of the third station still have to dry by the middle of next week, after which this device will also be released for use again," reports sports department head Benjamin Koppe. The well-frequented facility continues to meet with great interest. A speedy repair before the spring of this year was therefore necessary. "The demand for outdoor sports is increasing year on year. We want to comply with the city council's mandate to look for further locations to realize such offers in the sports development planning that is now beginning," says Koppe.
