Grant notification for school social work handed over

24.05.2019

Today, Helmut Holter, Thuringian Minister for Education, Youth and Sport, presented Mayor Thomas Nitzsche and Head of Department Eberhard Hertzsch with a grant notification for the city of Jena for 566,624 euros to promote school social work. During the meeting at the IGS "Grete Unrein" in Jena, Minister Holter praised the city's exemplary commitment.

Jena began implementing school social work with its own municipal concept back in 1992. School social workers are now employed at 23 school locations (twelve community and comprehensive schools, six grammar schools, three vocational schools, one special needs center and one elementary school).

The costs for school social work in Jena amount to a total of around 1.4 million euros per year. Around 800,000 euros, or about 60 percent, are borne by the city itself.
