Great response to information event on the office of lay assessor last Friday -
This year, lay assessors - honorary judges for criminal trials - will be elected nationwide. This honorary office is an essential pillar of our legal system. It is an elective office with many facets, and before applying it makes sense to take note of some information about it.
In order to provide interested parties with an insight into the tasks and duties of the office of lay assessor, the Jena Adult Education Center, in cooperation with the City of Jena's Legal Department and the Association of Honorary Judges of Central Germany, offered an information event on the subject. There were 44 participants on the registration list and over 80 people attended.
"This shows the great interest. The event was so well attended that we had to make up for lost time," said Ms. Kölbel from the City of Jena's legal department.
"Unfortunately, it was still not possible to find a place for everyone who was interested. Around 30 people had to be sent away again - but in consultation with the speaker, with the prospect of a repeat of the information event," said Ms. Anding, head of the vhs, looking back on the event.
Therefore, another (free) information event on the office of lay assessor will be offered on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 6 p.m. in the office of the Jena Adult Education Center (Grietgasse 17a). Due to limited seating capacity , prior registration is urgently required.
