Greater attention for the topics of school and sport
All school and sports policy issues are to be discussed and deliberated in a new joint committee in future. At yesterday's meeting of the Jena City Council, the members of the newly formed Schools and Sport Committee were appointed. This committee is intended to further develop the special committee "School Development Planning and School Education". The background to this is also that the area of sport has been transferred from the former Department 2 to the new Department 5 (Youth, Education, Culture and Sport) with the reorganization of the departments of Jena City Council. The committee has nine members, with the CDU and the Left Party each having two members and all other parliamentary groups having one each.
"With this newly established committee, we are responding to the long-standing demand of sports and education stakeholders in Jena,"
said Johannes Schleußner, Head of the Department for Youth, Education, Culture and Sport. The aim is to devote greater attention to both areas - in line with their social importance.
"Sports and school development should finally be considered together, as there are many overlaps in terms of content - for example in the use of spaces, general cooperation and, in particular, user groups,"
emphasized Schleußner.
The new specialist committee is responsible for school network and school development planning, including media development planning, for reporting on the school registration process and the development of pupil numbers, for school support programs, school trials, the appointment of head teachers and school names, as well as for the topic of inclusion in schools (with the exception of integration assistance measures). The committee also deals with lunch provision, school transport services and the school fair, cultural school education (music and art school, museums), the "Stern" school hostel (content, framework, statutes) and reporting on the city's STEM funding (math, IT, natural sciences, technology). The responsibilities of the new Schools and Sport Committee also include preliminary consultation on construction, renovation and development projects in the area of schools and sport, the sports development plan and reporting on sport, the sports funding guidelines and decision-making on sports club funding.
