Gunar Schmidt becomes Managing Director of Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck on June 1
Jena (sdr). The supervisory bodies of Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck have appointed Gunar Schmidt as Managing Director of the energy supplier. Schmidt will take up his position on June 1. The 44-year-old will manage Stadtwerke Energie together with Claudia Budich. He has been appointed until 2026. Gunar Schmidt is currently Managing Director of Stadtwerke Jena Netze and jENERGIE GmbH.
"I am delighted that we have been able to recruit a recognized expert in Gunar Schmidt. He not only knows the company extremely well, but has also been very successful in recent years in driving forward municipal utility projects such as the smart district of Jena-Lobeda. He will further expand the combination of high supply security and citizen-oriented innovation in the energy supply of our city," says Dr. Thomas Nitzsche, Lord Mayor of the City of Jena and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Stadtwerke Energie-Jena-Pößneck.
Gunar Schmidt is an engineer and economist. In 2017, he became the founding Managing Director of Stadtwerke Jena Netze and had previously been Head of Technical Management at Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck since 2013. Schmidt is married and has two children.
"Stadtwerke has not only ensured stability and security of supply for our customers here in the region during the last year of the pandemic. Over the next few years, we now face important and forward-looking tasks with the concrete regional implementation of the energy transition. In addition, we must continue to expand our digital offerings for our customers and rethink public services. I am delighted with the trust placed in me by the committees and look forward to the tasks with the teams at Stadtwerke," said Schmidt.
The personnel realignment in the management of Stadtwerke Jena and Stadtwerke Energie has thus been successfully completed: Claudia Budich and Tobias Wolfrum have been Managing Directors of Stadtwerke Jena GmbH since February. As an energy supplier, Stadtwerke Energie Jena-Pößneck is a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Jena GmbH. With Claudia Budich and Gunar Schmidt, there will also be a duo at the helm here.
Gunar Schmidt will relinquish his position as Managing Director of Stadtwerke Jena Netze at the end of May. An interim managing director, Kristin Weiß, was also confirmed by the committees. The 44-year-old has worked in various positions at Jenaer Stadtwerke since 2009 and is currently head of the Gas/Water Network Operations and Technical Customer Service departments.
