Head of Department Johannes Schleußner is patron of the 2026 company run

Donating blood can save lives - and at the same time pave the way to the starting line in Jena. The cooperation between the blood donation service at Jena University Hospital (UKJ) and the 15th Jena Company Run is continuing this year. Anyone who donates blood at Bachstraße 18 by 15.05.2025 can secure a voucher for participation in the company run on 19.05.2025 as an alternative to the usual expense allowance for the donation. Johannes Schleußner, this year's patron of the run and Head of Education, Youth, Culture and Sport for the City of Jena, has now opened the campaign. The number of vouchers is limited to 100.

"I am very happy to support the campaign. It combines what our city is all about: solidarity, commitment and community. Donating blood saves lives - and the traditional cooperation with the Jena company run shows that we can achieve a lot together in our city. Every donation counts",

says Johannes Schleußner, head of the sports department.

More than 80 blood products are needed every day at the UKJ to care for patients. Blood reserves are used for operations, cancer treatment and after accidents, among other things.

"The demand for blood products is constantly high. Thanks to the combination of blood donation and the company run, we can also reach people who find it more difficult to decide to donate in their stressful everyday lives. The campaign creates a concrete occasion and makes access easier",

says Dr. Silke Rummler, Managing Director of the Institute for Clinical Transfusion Medicine Jena gGmbH (IKTJ).

Healthy adults aged 18 and over with a minimum weight of 50 kilograms can donate blood and take part in the campaign. To avoid waiting times, we recommend making an appointment in advance by calling 03641 9-393939.

15th company run on 19.05.2026 at the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld

Under the motto "#JenasFirmenLaufen!", all companies, institutions, authorities and club and leisure teams from Jena are invited to run a distance of around five kilometers together on 19.05.2026. The focus is not on speed, but on reaching the finish line together as a team - and the joy of doing something good together. As in the previous year, the run will take place in the Ernst Abbe sports field.
