Head of department Eberhard Hertzsch adds to the invitation: "Due to the events during the corona pandemic, many of the tasks of the specialist health service were hardly noticed. With the presentation on March 19, we want to show how diverse the services offered by our colleagues are. The Jena Health Department is a central pillar for protecting the health of the population and a guarantor of equal opportunities in our city."
Network intensifies preventative work
Jena was accepted into the Healthy Cities Network of the Federal Republic of Germany at the beginning of February. The City of Light is the 95th member of this municipal association. This step implements a city council resolution. Joining includes the will and commitment to develop overall strategic approaches to health promotion. This also includes the establishment of a prevention chain. Intensive work is currently underway on this. The Healthy Cities Network is a profound resource for expert advice and knowledge transfer.
Backgroundinformation :
The Day of the Health Department has been celebrated on March 19 for five years. The doctor and social physician Johann Peter Frank, who founded the public health service in the 18th century, was born on this day.
The motto for Public Health Day 2024 is "Social inequality and health". Studies have repeatedly shown the influence of social status (e.g. education, occupation and income) on health and life expectancy.
The issue of equal opportunities is a top priority for the Jena Health Department. Population groups with a low social status are an important target group in our daily work. This includes the careful assessment of children's needs during school examinations, dental health checks in all Jena educational institutions, initial examinations of people seeking protection, active cooperation in the creation of the heat action plan and support in mental health crises.
In addition, targeted health prevention work in Jena's neighborhoods is becoming increasingly important. By intensifying communication through various channels, the Jena Health Service will make a further contribution to informing the population of Jena.
