Honoring the winning teams of the CITY CYCLING 2024 in Jena

CITY CYCLING Jena 2024(link is external) was a complete success. On Wednesday evening, Mayor Thomas Nitzsche and asphericon GmbH honored the winning teams at the JEDI - Jena Digital Innovation Hub. The technology company is a sponsor of CITY CYCLING in Jena and donates the cash prizes to Jena clubs.

With over 4,000 participants (38% more than last year) and 700,982 kilometers cycled, a new record was set - 26% more than last year. Jena was thus able to overtake the state capital Erfurt for the first time and took first place in Thuringia. The kilometers collected help to avoid around 116 tons of CO₂.

"The figures are impressive and underline the importance of cycling as a means of transportation in Jena. Cycling is not only environmentally friendly and cost-effective, but also good for the body and mind. This achievement shows that we are on the right track with the gradual implementation of the Jena 2035+ cycling plan. Thanks to all participants for their commitment to climate protection," emphasized Lord Mayor Thomas Nitzsche.

"In the last three years, we have almost doubled participation in CITY CYCLING Jena - a great success that shows how much enthusiasm there is for cycling in our city. But CITY CYCLING is more than just a competition to collect kilometers. It sends a clear signal: Jena is ready for sustainable mobility. We must use this momentum and continue to invest in safe cycling infrastructure. This will enable us to get even more people on their bikes in the long term - both in everyday life and during CITY CYCLING," added Thomas Hegenbart, Head of Marketing at asphericon GmbH.

Once again this year, there were trophies for the most active cyclists (km/cyclists) and the largest teams, as well as for the teams with the most kilometers cycled (1st to 3rd place). For the first time, prize money was awarded to the most active registered cycling clubs (e.V.) with the most kilometers per participant.
