Honoring the winning teams of the Jena CITY CYCLING 2025

21.10.2025

CITY CYCLING Jena 2025 was a complete success. On Monday evening, the winning teams were honored by Mayor Thomas Nitzsche and asphericon GmbH at the JEDI - Jena Digital Innovation Hub. The technology company is a sponsor of CITY CYCLING in Jena and donates the cash prizes to Jena schools.

With around 3,700 participants (2024: 4,046), there were slightly fewer than in the previous year, but they covered more kilometers. A total of 163 teams (2024: 161) cycled over 722,400 kilometers - that's more than 20,000 kilometers and thus around 3 percent more than in 2024. This is a new record for the city of Jena! The distance cycled avoided around 118 tons of CO₂ - around 2 tons more than in the previous year.

This puts Jena in second place nationwide, losing its top position to Erfurt. In the state capital, around 4,400 people cycled over 840,000 kilometers.

"Every year, CITY CYCLING shows anew how great the enthusiasm for cycling is in Jena. The fact that we set a new kilometer record this year shows that Jena keeps moving - in the truest sense of the word. This result is a great community achievement and a strong signal for sustainability in our city," emphasized Lord Mayor Thomas Nitzsche.

"The new record number of kilometers shows that CITY CYCLING has long since become a permanent fixture in Jena. We are delighted that so many people enthusiastically cycle along year after year and together set a visible example for sustainable mobility. This commitment motivates us to continue supporting CITY CYCLING and to actively help shape the change towards a bicycle-friendly city," added Alexander W. Zschäbitz, Managing Director of asphericon GmbH.
