Hospice Jena has become a hotspot

14.11.2020

After positive cases at the Jena Hospice became known yesterday, the further extent of the events is gradually becoming clear. The Jena Hospice has become a hotspot. Due to numerous contacts in the past three weeks from the family, professional and voluntary sector at the Jena Hospice, further cases have become known today which are directly connected to the outbreak there. This affects further care facilities where contact persons could be identified:

  • Visitamed Rosenthal Senior Citizens' Residence, Juri-Gagarin-Strasse, Jena
  • DRK Senior Citizens' Home Am Kleinertal, Friedrich-Zucker-Strasse

At another nursing home, the Luisenhaus senior citizens' centre in Semmelweisstraße, one resident also tested positive. This case is not related to the hospice.

Report to Corona hotline of the city of Jena

Persons who have come and gone to the Jena Hospice in the past three weeks privately, professionally or for voluntary reasons are asked by the city of Jena to isolate themselves as far as possible in order to prevent further chains of contact. Should these persons develop symptoms typical for Covid-19, they should contact the Corona-Hotline, which is manned daily from 10-14 o'clock: 0049 3641 - 49 2222.

Strict protective measures for nursing homes are necessary

A ban on visiting and admission was imposed on all three nursing homes. The specialist health service is in contact with all facilities to organise smear tests and other hygiene precautions and has ordered quarantines. In this context, the Health Specialist Service also emphasises the importance of using FFP-2 masks, which must be worn by staff in the medical sector. It also makes an urgent request to other care institutions to take precautionary measures to reduce contacts and to comply with hygiene measures.

Further cases of infection at educational institutions

Positive cases were reported at other schools and individual classes were quarantined:

  • Lobdeburg School - 1 class
  • IGS Grete Impure School - 1 class
  • Saaletalschule - 2 classes
  • Wenigenjena comprehensive school - 1 class

This means that 8 schools and one day-care centre in Jena are currently affected by partial quarantines or complete closure. In addition to those listed above, the following are also affected the Schiller School, SBSZ Göschwitz and the Reich Wine High School. The SteinMalEins comprehensive school and the kindergarten Schwabenhaus are currently completely closed.
