Icicles and roof avalanches are a major hazard for pedestrians

12.02.2021

The sunshine is currently starting to melt the upper layers of snow. This is particularly evident on roof surfaces.

Icicles, which are now growing on the gutters, can fall down quickly. Passers-by on the streets are therefore in immediate danger. Always be aware of this danger! Avoid standing directly under icicles.

The city of Jena is working with the fire department to defuse critical points. This is not possible across the board. We would therefore like to make it clear that homeowners have a duty to ensure the safety of their homes. They are liable in the event of damage. If it is not possible to remove the icicles, the areas on the sidewalk must be marked and closed off.

As temperatures above zero have been forecast for the coming week, the risk of roof avalanches is also increasing. These can also endanger people, especially children of course. We therefore appeal to parents to make children aware of this.
