Important sign of tolerance and diversity
Another sign of tolerance and diversity in Jena: a banner from the "Weltoffenes Thüringen" initiative has been displayed on the façade of the Adolf Reichwein Grammar School since today. Pupils and their teachers put it up together to stand up for a diverse Thuringia in which people are accepted and welcome in their differences and in which prejudice, exclusion and hatred have no place.
The campaign was embedded in a project day on the topic of democracy and participation, for which not only teachers but also older pupils had prepared activities for younger pupils. In numerous workshops, the participants dealt with various aspects and possibilities of democratic coexistence.
This was particularly important in view of the Bundestag elections on Sunday and the appreciation of democracy as a social achievement, said principal Christoph Buschner. Christine Wolfer, Head of the Youth and Education Department of the City of Jena, was also on site and praised the campaign. "From the very beginning, the city of Jena and its municipal enterprises have been involved in the cosmopolitan Thuringia initiative together with numerous Thuringian companies, sports associations, charitable organizations, cultural and educational institutions and various individuals," said Wolfer. "We are delighted that Adolf Reichwein Grammar School is now also part of this increasingly strong network."
