Indoor air pollution at the Heinrich Heine School

17.02.2025

The city of Jena is reporting that indoor air pollution has been detected in the old building of the Heinrich Heine elementary school (Dammstraße). Following complaints about unpleasant odors, the health department had air measurements carried out in the entire school building. Minor deviations from the norm were found in three rooms of the old building.

As a precautionary measure, the music room, the staff room and the computer room are therefore excluded from use for the time being. In addition, two classrooms on the 2nd floor have been temporarily evacuated. In the rest of the building, increased ventilation will ensure better air quality. Air purifiers will be used in the administrative rooms in use for a short period of time.

The measures are being taken in close coordination with the Thuringian State Office for Consumer Protection. An information event for parents will take place on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. The city and school management will keep everyone involved up to date on the next steps.
